Appendix J - Entity Purposes Administration / Office A place that is primarily used for administrative work. Essentially comprises open plan office areas and/or separate offices. Mainly used in daytime hours on business days. Apartment Block Premises encompassing apartment buildings and large blocks of flats. The system is currently geared to cover energy used just for centrally provided services and common areas. A later development could also allow for an alternative aggregated model which would also incorporate the total consumption of each owner occupant or tenant. Assembly Hall A large enclosed area primarily intended as the place where the whole school can be assembled. Cafeteria A place primarily used for the preparation and consumption of food. Changing Shed A building primarily used as changing rooms for sporting activity or swimming. Classroom Space primarily used as a school classroom or similar educational area. Although listed as singular, there may one or more actual classrooms defined as an Entity. Computer Lab/Services An area specially designated for intensive individual computer usage for a large number of people. Dental Clinic An area used for providing school dental services. Dormitory A building primarily used as sleeping quarters or a hostel for medium term occupation. This does not include hotel/motel accommodation or apartment blocks (refer to either Apartment Block or Hotel/Motel). Enclosed Space/Foyer A large indoor space or atrium used as an entrance foyer and/or gathering place. Entertainment Theatre A theatre attended for entertainment purposes such as operas, plays, or movies. Gallery Premises used for the storage and display of art works and similar objects. Gymnasium A facility used for recreational and fitness training purposes. Heat Plant A plant that generates heat for use by other facilities. Hospital Wards A facility used for the housing and care of hospital patients. Patients usually stay overnight. Hotel/Motel Premises providing mainly short term accommodation as distinct from Dormitory above. Indoor Swimming Pool A completely enclosed recreational swimming pool. Laboratory Premises used for the purposes of scientific research, measurement, or education. Laundry A plant used to launder clothing, towels and bed linen etc. Lecture Theatre A theatre used primarily for educational lectures. Library Premises used for the storage and display of books. These may have fairly specific requirements for temperature and humidity. Museum Premises for the storage and display of historical documents, archaeological artefacts, objects from the natural world and some art. Operating Theatre Premises used for performing surgery. These usually have strict temperature conditions and air quality requirements for the purposes of sterility. Other If this appears to be the only suitable option, then contact ETS for further advice. Outdoor Lighting/Unenclosed Space Areas that are lit for the purposes of public safety and convenience. Outdoor Swimming Pool A swimming pool that is not enclosed within another structure. Parking Building A building used for primarily for car parking. Storage Shed A probably separate building for storing equipment and maintenance materials. Street Lighting Lighting used to illuminate the road, intersections, and areas of potential danger. Toilet Block A block of toilets and washrooms.
